It was a long semester, and an even longer year, but I’ve learned so much while being in college.
I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll say it a million more: this semester was rough. Like… very rough.
My mom always warned me about the age of 19. It’s the age of change and vulnerability. She described it as a time where you’ll be thrust into new situations—situations that you might not know how to handle–but in the end, it’ll be a time of transformation.
I like to think that 2021, the year I finally turned 19, is that time of transformation.
From situationships to handling rejection, I’ve learned more this year in college than at any point in my life thus far. Transparent moment, I’m so over 2021 but I have to be thankful for the painful yet much needed lessons I learned this year. Being a college student during this time is not easy, but I’m proud of myself.
Whether you’re 17 or 22, I think we can all learn a lot from what 2021 has brought to the table.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
1. Not everyone deserves access to you; Stop making yourself available to everyone.
2. Be selective about who you let in your circle.
3. That opportunity you think you’re not good enough for? Take it.
4. The law of attraction truly works when the law of resonance is in place.
5. Structure is key for a balanced lifestyle in college.
6. Sometimes there’s true power in just shutting the hell up.
7. The most constant person in your life is you; take care of yourself.
8. Stop waiting on him/her/them. You’re young, you’re attractive, and you’ve got the world ahead of you.
9. Let go of that situationship, girl.
10. On that note, let go of that friend that thinks so lowly of you.
11. Trust your gut. Always.
12. If you’re having issues, talk to someone you trust.
13. Have fun.
14. That hangover + the reason you got drunk in the first place will be much worse than just confronting the issue you’re facing.
15. Be vigilant.
16. Self-care is more than just clay masks and essential oils.
17. Invest in staple pieces because that Fashion Nova dress does not have longevity.
18. It’s okay to make mistakes.
19. It’s not okay to beat yourself up for those mistakes.
20. Know your worth and add tax… and gratuity
21. Drink your water, take your meds, and do you.
This year has taught me so much about what it’s like to be a young adult. Not only did I mature this year, I also went through a lot of lessons–hard ones–that taught me about who I should trust and who I should let into my circle. I made some mistakes along the way, but overall this was a year that gave me hella wisdom.
I’m a firm believer that there’s nothing wrong with putting yourself first and there’s nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you learn and grow from them. 2021, like 2020, was a year of lessons and I’ve grown so much being in college
I want 2022 to be a year where all the lessons and all the pain that has happened are used for good. 2022 should be about growth and happiness.
I’m soooo excited to expand Makenna’s Meditation to a brand that I can truly be proud of. Expect more blog posts, more mini vlogs on my Insta, and expect to HEAR a lot more of me on your for you page. 2022 will truly be the year for Makenna’s Meditation.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey–from changing my blog name to my rebrand. It’s been a long year, but I’m so excited to continue this journey with you all.
I love you all so much. See you in the next year.
